Artist for Action, Sandy Hook Promise, Bandsintown and the Music Managers Forum-US have announced an impressive lineup for their 2025 music business Take Action SXSW Summit and Showcases featuring Passion Pit, Ginuwine, Everclear alongside industry leaders and experts.

Take Action Summit and Showcases set schedule
The Take Action x SXSW official event series will run from March 10th 7 PM – 2 AM at Mohawk (912 Red River St) to March 11th 11:30 AM – 2 AM at Empire Control Room & Garage (606 E 7th St). Both days feature live performances and interactive art installations. Tuesday’s Music & Social Impact Summit adds panels and community gatherings including a complimentary brunch and happy hour.
This event holds special significance within the SXSW’s Music community as Mark Barden, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Sandy Hook Promise and Co-Founder Artist For Action, was a professional guitarist before his 7 year old son, Daniel, was tragically killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Since then, Mark has dedicated his life to preventing similar tragedies – first through Sandy Hook Promise, and more recently launching Artist For Action in 2023, rallying artists like Billie Eilish, Sheryl Crow, Peter Gabriel, Nile Rodgers and others to prevent gun violence and create safer communities.
Take Action Summit: Music & Social Impact
In collaboration with Bandsintown and Music Managers Forum-US, Artist for Action and Sandy Hook Promise are curating the Take Action x SXSW Music & Social Impact Summit and community building event featuring artists, industry leaders, activists and organizations including HeadCount, SoundExchange, MusiCares, beatBread, Tunecore, Sonicbids and the SIMS Foundation.
With a light brunch before, a happy hour after and multiple rooms for spontaneous networking throughout, the Take Action x SXSW Summit is designed to build new and lasting connections within the independent music community.

“We were put on this earth to help others” – Passion Pits’ Michael Angelakos
“My grandmother, who remains my greatest inspiration, once said: ‘Our main purpose in life is not to make money, or to have a good time, or to earn fame in society; our purpose is to serve others–to be of assistance to those who need help,’ I live my life by her words, echoed by my great-grandmother before her and my mother after her, along with my clinicians and closest guides: we were put on this earth to help others,“ shared Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit. “It is truly an honor to be called upon to join Artist For Action and Sandy Hook Promise for Take Action x SXSW.”
“Music has the power to bring people together and inspire action. All across this country, youth and adults are bringing violence prevention education and advocacy into their schools, homes, and communities,” said Mark Barden, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Sandy Hook Promise and Co-Founder of Artist For Action. “These actions have been saving lives and driving true culture change, creating a safer future for everyone. We are so grateful to the artists and panelists that will be joining us at Take Action x SXSW and helping us to spread the message that violence is preventable, and amazing things are possible when we all come together.”
“Artist for Artist understands how to execute a successful event from all angles and always deliver,” said James Minor, SXSW VP of Music Festival. “For me, a production stands out when you can feel the passion that’s driving it behind the scenes. With Artist for Artist, this is always the case.”
