Unofficial Guide to Music Industry Events during SXSW 2024
The Music Tectonics and Rock Paper Scissors team has pulled together an impressive list of official and unofficial music industry and music industry and music tech events happening next week in Austin during SXSW.
There is so much going on in Austin every March that it’s hard to find where movers and shakers gather. Many of the best events aren’t even on the official SXSW schedule, so this guide includes off-site summits, unofficial bar-backroom meetups, theme houses, rooftop happy hours, and key official events.

Take Action Music Summit
On Tuesday, March 12, from 12:00 – 6:00 PM, Bandsintown and the Music Managers Forum US are cosponsoring the one-day Take Action Music Summit at the Mohawk along with on-profits Give A Note, Artist For Artist, and Artist For Action. No SXSW is required to pass to attend.
35 panelists and moderators will include the legendary Bootsy Collins, Mark Barden of Artist For Action and Sandy Hook Promise, Dae Bogan of the MLC, Emily White of Collective Entertainment, John Mlynczak of NAMM, Danna Droppo of Billboard, and more.
At 2:40 PM, Bandsintown co-founder and Managing Partner Fabrice Sergent will host Concert Marketing & The Power of First-Party Data, examining how ever-changing algorithms, disappearing tracking cookies, and legitimate privacy concerns bring new challenges and opportunities to the fan-artist relationship. Fabrice and a panel of experts will look at what’s new and what’s working in 2024 to help artists sell more tickets, merchandise, and music.
The AI Music Meetup
(Wed. 3/13 at 4 pm) Hilton Austin Downtown Room 410
“Hosted by Dmitri Vietze and Tracy Maddux. Whether you’re an AI music founder, a record label, or artist manager, now is the time to figure out how AI and music will evolve together. This meet up is built to help you meet more people in a SXSW hour than you might meet in a whole day. This will be facilitated as a lightning fast intros followed by open networking. This is the spot to learn how to monetize music with AI, learn about the latest music making tools that use AI, share your beliefs on the ethics of AI in music, and more. Bring your QR codes, biz cards, or flyers and let’s get meeting!”
Music Tech Founders and Inventors Support Group
Thu. 3/14 at 11:30 AM Hilton Austin Downtown Room 410
Hosted by Shayli Ankenbruck and Emily Frances. Creative innovators in music and tech face similar challenges no matter what mad inventions they are bringing to life. Too often they try to face these alone. The Music Tech Founders and Inventors Support Group Meet Up is the place for tech founders, inventors, and musical instrument makers to come together, collaborate, network and share their ideas, successes, and struggles to build a supportive community. Learn how other founders and inventors have taken their ideas from the workbench, to beta/prototypes, to market, and share your story!
