As we head into 2024, there are a lot of exciting factors at play for the music industry at large. Catalogs remain king, and we’ll continue to see a healthy appetite in the music acquisition market next year. This is especially true for more niche genres, like dance music, which continues to rapidly gain momentum!
Next year, we’ll also see AI continue to make its mark on the music industry.
While new technology is incredibly exciting, and the majority of us are open to what it can offer us, there’s still a lot to learn about all of its capabilities. In the coming months, we’ll likely see training data based on copyrighted works become a top-of-mind aspect of contract negotiations. Also, stem separation software will become common practice for making new samples from existing and beloved catalog materials.
We’ve also seen the music streaming landscape become more complex for artists, labels and distributors alike. While some DSPs are optimizing the streaming landscape for artists with their battle on fake stems, the massive influx of music on DSPs, in general, has made it a bit more difficult for labels and artists to get their music in front of audiences.
