10 Myths Social Media you should stop falling for

It’s really easy to get caught up in the collective wisdom of the Internet, but often it’s wrong. This could be because an isolated case was blown out of proportion, or the information is just dated. Social media advisor Angie Gensler recently posted about the 10 myths of social media that I’ve adapted for the music business. Here we go.

Myth #1: Social media is free. Not so. At the very least it costs you a lot of time if you do it well. Depending upon what services and tiers you sign up for on different platforms, you could end up spending more money than you expect.

Myth #2: You have to be on every platform. No, if you did that you’d never have any time in the day to make music. You only need to be where your audience is, which is usually just a couple of platforms.

Myth #3: You need to post unique content on each platform. This is outdated advice that is a real time suck if you follow it. You can repurpose content to work on almost any platform.

Myth #4: Social networks are broadcast channels. They can be, but if you really want them to work well then they really need your engagement with your audience.

Myth #5: You have to post a multiple times per day. More outdated info. You get the best results when you post consistently. A scheduler app really helps for that.

Myth #6: Your images have to be perfect. Not anymore. People prefer authenticity to perfection.

Myth #7: Branding isn’t important if you post on different platforms. Actually, it’s more important than ever that you stay true to your brand in all your content everywhere.

Myth #8: You need to post a lot of selfies to get engagement. Any type of compelling image works, so people aren’t a necessity.

Myth #9: Scheduling your posts hurts engagement. No, because posting at consistent times is most important.

Myth #10: You need a video in your post to get results. It might help, but not if you hate creating them or can’t do them consistently. Use the posting method you enjoy the most.

Hopefully busting these 10 myths will put your mind at ease that posting on social media can be a lot easier than you think.

  1. Thanks for sharing the materials on the myths about social media, I think that most foolish is social media platforms are the same because they have so many differences. It’s also important to consider the myths surrounding getting an education and hiring professionals for assistance with the papers. For example, when I choose expert for my paper, I read a review at https://www.aresearchguide.com/edubirdie-review.html to make sure that the service is legit and try to find out more details about the interface. It works the same way with the social media resources.
