Snap signs Sony, adds AR to music videos
Social media platform Snap has announced an exclusive licensing deal with Sony Music Entertainment.
Now all three major music groups and many indies music companies including Kobalt and BNG have now licensed music to the photo and video sharing Snapchat app.
As of the third quarter of 2021, Snapchat had 306 million daily active users worldwide, up from 293 million global DAU in the previous quarter of 2020.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“In the coming weeks, Sound Lenses will be available with a pre-selected song embedded into the Lens, a Lens that transforms pictures of anyone to appear as if they are singing a song and Cameo Sound Lenses that apply visual effects to put users and a friend into animated music videos,” according to Variety who first reported the deal.
