Bandcamp Waives All Commissions Again Today, Announces Juneteenth Racial Justice Campaign
Today, Friday June 5th, from midnight to midnight Pacific Time, Bandcamp is again waiving its share of sales to support artists impacted by Covid-19.
Many artists and labels have created special releases for the day including some in support of racial justice and change.
Bandcamp has pledged to waive all commissions on the first Friday of every month until the coronavirus crisis subsides. During a similar promotion on March 20th, fans bought $4.3 million worth of music and merchandise in 24 hours.
Bandcamp Supports Racial Justice, Equality and Change
On Juneteenth (June 19, from midnight to midnight PDT) and every Juneteenth hereafter Bandcamp has pledged to donate 100% of its share of sales to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund. Bandcamp is also allocating an additional $30,000 per year to partner with organizations that fight for racial justice and create opportunities for people of color.
“The current moment is part of a long-standing, widespread, and entrenched system of structural oppression of people of color,” wrote Bandcamp cc0counder Ethan Diamond, “and real progress requires a sustained and sincere commitment to political, social, and economic racial justice and change.”
