CMJ, College Music Marathon Are Relaunching But Not Everyone’s Happy
CMJ, the College Media Journal, and the College Music Marathon conference are relaunching in 2020, and it appears that the once go-to source for college radio and music has some serious fence-mending to do.
CMJ once produced the only real guide to and charts for college radio and it’s NYC Marathon conference was a must-attend for artists and labels hoping to crack the campus market.
But several investors and ownership changes later, it all went down in flames in 2016. Then last week came this tweet:
After a long break, CMJ is under new management and re-launching in 2020. More news soon. https://t.co/aCWAvORZab info@cmj.com— CMJ (@CMJ) December 5, 2019
While still short on details, Hypebot was able to confirm that the tweet and the intention to relaunch are genuine.
Many expressed nostalgia and hoped that under new management CMJ could return to its glory days. But others – some of who claimed to still be owed money – were less excited.
it would be rlly cool to hear abt your plan to pay restitution to the employees and venues your mgmt left high & dry years ago

For its part, CMJ is only expressing optimism without details.
