Stationhead Adds Recording To Free Radio Station Creation App, Driving More Paid Music Streams
Stationhead, the social radio station creation app has added the ability to record shows with music drawn directly from Spotify and Apple Music. The app's streaming integration eliminates the need for costly licensing while ensuring rightsholders are properly compensated, as well as empowering artists and podcasters to create content that showcases music.
The Stationhead app already allows users to create their own "station" that can included live talk, guest callers, messaging. Since launching November of last year, more than 200,000 shows have been created by hosts on the platform.
5 million listeners = 5 million paid streams
Unlike traditional radio, where a single broadcast is sent to many listeners, Stationhead is integrated with Spotify and Apple Music so each listener counts as an individual paid stream for every song played. In other words, 5 million listeners is equal to 5 million paid streams. Traditional podcasters must acquire licenses to any songs before adding them in full for their listeners.

Some artists have seen more than 100% increase in streams through Stationhead. It has the potential to allow artists to release new music while telling the story around what has been created. “Since I've started using the Stationhead app I've had nothing but success. I checked today, and I have 23k streams, and that is a blessing and it's all thanks to Stationhead,” said independent artist Burrell Kobe. (Skip to 1:18 on Instagram to hear his full story below.)
Stationhead hosts are airing morning shows, advice shows, late-night confessionals, listening parties of all genres inviting special guests like Laura Dreyfuss, Francis & the Lights, Tee Grizzley, Tahiry Jose, St. Lucia, and Vic Mensa to go ON. You name it, you can find it, or create it, on Stationhead.
"Stationhead is the YouTube of audio, and our current growth rate is matching and sometimes exceeding Youtube’s early numbers,” said Murray Levison, Stationhead COO. “In the midst of an audio revolution driven by podcasting, music streaming, and smart speakers, Stationhead is the only social platform built for it all.”
