Spotify Launches Your Daily Drive Music + News Playlist
Spotify has added Your Daily Drive, a playlist that combines personalized music with news and short features. At launch, the Wall Street Journal, NPR and PRI are providing non-music content. The music mixes old and new based on the user's previous listening habits.
Your Daily Drive has launched for all U.S. users only, but test have been spotted in other languages and countries.
"Americans log 70 billion hours behind the wheel each year, with a big chunk of that time spent commuting to and from work or school." says Spotify. "To help make that time fly by, stay up to date on the world around you, and maybe even rock out to a few timeless classics, we are excited to introduce Your Daily Drive."
The music and news are updated throughout the day, according to Spotify, making the offering different for both the morning and evening commutes.

First Impressions
Your Daily Drive delivered on its promise in a test this morning with a mix as eclectic as my usual listening habits. As a premium subscriber, I was surprised to hear a short ad before content from the Wall Street Journal, but it makes sense that the non-music content would monetize in some way.
Add the ability to personalize the non-music content from localized and other sources, and broadcast radio in its current form feels irrelevant.
