MTV Reprises Infamous ‘Spring Break’
Days after acquiring the SnowGlobe Music Festival to build its live entertainment presence, MTV has announced it is bringing back an old chestnut – “MTV Spring Break” – which introduced North America to many new artists during its heyday.
The new version of “MTV Spring Break” will take place March 19-21 at the Grand Oasis Hotel in Cancun, Mexico, featuring performances, surprise celebrity guests and plenty of young skin in swim clothes. MTV will also host alternative Spring Break events for the “rising tide of young activists who use their free time to give back.”
It’s not really like “Spring Break” ever went away as much as it wasn’t a television event. This year’s MTV festivity took place at The Palms in Las Vegas.
MTV has presented artists like Lil Wayne and Pink throughout the Caribbean and American South. It once presented acts like a new band called Radiohead in 1993.
The announcement not only follows the SnowGlobe announcement but, in June, MTV launched MTV Studios and recently announced a reimagination of its “Real World” for Facebook Watch.
MTV currently leads all cable networks in ratings growth, according to the company.
