Disney’s ‘Coco’ Hangs On To The Top Of Weekend Box Office
The weekend proved to be a bit of a sleeper for movie box office results, with last week’s champion, Disney-Pixar’s “Coco” staying at the top of the heap. The animated musical adventure added $18.3M in North America and $73.6M worldwide over the weekend, pushing its cumulative worldwide gross to $274 million.
Internationally, 20th Century Fox’s “Murder on the Orient Express” pushed past Warner Bros. super hero epic “Justice League” to claim the #2 spot, adding $25.2M while “Justice League” managed to cling to live at the #2 spot in North America, adding $9.6M and bringing its cume to a respectable $613 million.
A24’s “Disaster Artist” also showed some life, adding $6.4M for its second weekend. The James Franco-helmed adaptation of the book of the same name about director Tommy Wiseau’s making of the notoriously bad film “The Room” has thrived on positive word of mouth while in limited release and may see a broader entry into theaters.
Next week, be on the lookout for the next Star Wars sequel, which debuted in Los Angeles over the weekend and is anticipated to clear $200 million when it hits the theaters next weekend.
