Music powers many videos posted on Facebook as well as driving traffic and engagement in other ways. But many uses of music have gone unlicensed and uncompensated on the platform. There are small signs that may change.

Facebook is slowly creating a music department. While far from a rush of hiring, two help wanted postings point to the social media giant finally considering its longstanding problem with music licensing.
A September job posted for Director of Global Music Licensin remains unfilled, and a newer jobs post has appeared seeking a music focused Product Manager.
Minimum qualifications for the job include:
- "Understanding of music and video rights and copyright law"
- "Familiarity with YouTube’s Content ID"
