The Weeknd Breaks Spotify Single Day Record With More Than 33 Million Streams Every 24 Hours
[UPDATED] Spotify has shared that as of November 26th, The Weeknd is the artist with the most streams on Spotify in a single day. The artist's top 5 tracks have a cumulative 1.6 billion plays on the music streamer.
While thus far, the Spotify PR team failed to attach a specific number to The Weeknd's record one day streams (we even asked nicely…), they did manage to gather two quotes from execs involved:
Monte Lipman, Chairman & Co-Founder, Republic Records said, “Spotify’s continued support of The Weeknd has now reached historic proportions and also reinforces the tremendous growth of global streaming."
Spotify's Global Head of Creator Services, Troy Carter echoed the excitement saying, "we're proud to have partnered with The Weeknd, his management and Republic Records on a phenomenal album. We look forward to breaking even more records together in the near future."
UPDATE: Music Ally calculated that the 18 tracks of The Weeknds' Starboy album are getting a 32.8 million daily streams on Spotify, and that doesn't include the daily streams of all of his previous releases.
