Kayne West Helps Announce Mos Def’s Retirement Via Rambling SoundCloud Recording
Yasiin Bey, the artist formerly known as Mos Def, has announced his retirement from music and film. Bey made the announcement in a SoundCloud recording seemingly made on a cellphone and posted on KanyeWest.com.
In Bey's retirement announcement, which took the form of an off-the-cuff freestyle rap, Bey took the South African government to taks, saying “I committed no crime” and noting that there were “No more parties in SA” which was perhaps a riff on Kayne West's recent hit "No More Parties In LA."
Bey then discusses his situation in South Africa, however, the explanation, which hints at government conspiracy in the African nation, leaves the listener with more questions than answers. Bey has allegedly been living in South Africa illegally for the past 3 years.
The announcement comes after Bey was arrested earlier this month after trying to leave South Africa, and presenting immigration officials with a 'World Passport' which, surprisingly, is a real thing but not one that is accepted as a legitimate transit document by many authorities.
Bey's final, yet-to-be-named album is due for release later this year.
