Spotify has just begun offering a 3 month trial of it’s premium service for only 99 cents. While the premium tier typically costs $9.99 a month, the new trial aims to win over paid subscribers following the success of Apple Music’s free trial which effectively netted 6.5 million paid users.
Additionally, Spotify estimates that users of their ad-supported service could surpass 100 million monthly users by the end of 2015.
- Following the company’s continuous changes in executives, Jay Z’s Tidal Music has appointed former SoundCloud executive Jeff Toig as it’s new CEO. Jay Z described Toig as “a leader at the intersection of consumer technology and entertainment for more than two decades.” This makes Toig the third CEO at the struggling Tidal service following the resignation of Andy Chen and Peter Tonstad.
- Spotify just released their Year in Music top lists- a yearly report on the streaming platform’s most popular artists, songs, and playlists. This year’s findings revealed Ed Sheeran to be the most streamed artist of all time with more than 3 billion streams from over 59 million different listeners. Among the artists included, Drake was the most streamed artist of 2015 and The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind The Madness took the title of most streamed album of the year.
