DWNLD Adds $12 Million Funding, Launches Free App Maker
Just a year after launch, DWNLD has received $12M from Greylock Partners to scale its app maker business which is already popular with musicians, celebrities and YouTube stars. The company has received a total of $14 million in funding to date.
DWNLD’s App Maker generates branded, customizable native apps for both iOS and Android, for users who don’t have any previous coding experience. The app maker now also offers both free and paid tiers.
“Now that we’ve proven demand for a simple, premium quality mobile app solution in the media space, we’re taking the value proposition to all categories,” said Co-Founder and CEO Alexandra Keating. “And in launching a completely free subscription tier we’ve created an environment where absolutely anyone can have an app. There are no longer barriers of price, technical resources, or difficulty.”
Based in New York, DWNLD has published over 2,000 mobile apps. The funding will be used to expand into new verticals and increase monetization options for app publishers.
“As web-usage continues to shift from desktop to a mobilefirst, multi-screen, and fully networked landscape, the opportunity to facilitate the transition for publishers is massive,” said Reid Hoffman, Partner at Greylock.
