YouTube To Offer Direct Advances To Musicians, Fan Funding Button [REPORT]
Midem kicks of its annual music business conference today in Cannes, France. While not quite the must-attend it once was, nothing has replaced it internationally; so you can expect a bevy of announcements. One big one is rumored to be coming via YouTube.
YouTube for Artists initiative is expanding to include direct marketing advances to musicians, according to the NY Post. “We’re going to disrupt the music labels,” YouTube executives told artists and managers briefed in advance of the launch.
The report also points to this week's announcement of free location based music analytics as part of the same initiative. The YouTube for Artists project is reportedly helmed by TJay Fowler, a former Beats Music product management executive.
According to the Post:
The offerings from YouTube for Artists include:
- Analytics showing the biggest concentrations of fans across the world to help plan tour dates.
- Fan funding buttons for bands to gain the money they need to produce music and videos.
- Help locating fans’ concert videos and use of artists’ music in user-generated content.
