Maintaining Blog Relationships After Your PR Campaign Ends
By Angela Mastrogiacomo of MuddyPawsPR.com
So you’ve just wrapped up your first PR campaign and managed to score some pretty sweet features in the process. Congrats! But as the features dwindle, how do you go about maintaining those relationships that you’ve all worked so hard to build? First things first: Don’t let them slip away.
Make a Spreadsheet
It may not seem like it now, but Excel will be your best friend for the foreseeable future. Make a spreadsheet of all the outlets that granted you coverage, what kind of coverage they gave you, and on what date. When you decide to release your next music video and go the DIY route, that spreadsheet and past coverage will be your ally.
No one ever got upset at having a band fawn over their site. Believe me. In addition to owning Muddy Paw Public Relations, I own music blog, Infectious Magazine, and I have never been above a little flattery. Sending a little follow up email to the outlets that have covered you can only help you.
Don’t Stop Promoting Just Because The Campaign Is Over
Just because your album is now out, or your music video has been on Youtube a month, doesn’t mean you should stop promoting it on your website and social media—and while you’re at it, why not promote with the links of those who’ve helped you out in the past?
Keep In Touch
This one is severely underestimated. We all practically live on social media these days, so why not use it to our advantage? Find that outlet, that writer, that editor on Twitter and Instagram and don’t just follow them—interact with them! Get to know the people behind the words. I promise you, they’re pretty cool. J
Now that you’ve started to get organized post-campaign, have some fun with it! Promoting your releases can be a stressful time, but post-release is all about enjoying the coverage, making new connections, and focusing that creative energy on your next big task. And hey, if you decide a polished campaign is more your style the next time, give Muddy Paw PR a holler. We’d love to work with you.
