Music/Tech/Media Deals: From Startup Funding To Big Brand Partnerships
Lots of deals and funding news of late. Here's a quick roundup including funding for Artiphon and Musikki, deals between Deezer x Bose and SoundHound x TouchTunes plus Gracenote's acquisition of HWW. In addition, Jay Z's Life + Times has a content deal with Fusion, Michelle Phan joined with Cutting Edge Group to create Shift Media Group and RZA is releasing Wu-Tang music via the Boombot Rex.
Artiphon Funding
It turns out that after winning the Pando Choice Award this summer, Artiphon received a personal investment of $100k from Steve Case. They are said to be closing in on a "year-long $500,000 Angel funding round."
Musikki Funding
Musikki recently received "€330,000 in funding from Smart Equity, a business angel investment vehicle in London."
Deezer x Bose
Deezer and Bose yesterday announced a "global rollout with Bose Corporation that will bring Deezer Premium Plus to the U.S. for the first time exclusively through Bose SoundTouch and SoundLink products."
SoundHound x TouchTunes
SoundHound and TouchTunes are partnering to "give SoundHound’s user base – which totals more than 225 million worldwide – control of the music in more than 60,000 bars and restaurants across North America."
Gracenote Acquires HWW
Gracenote acquired "Australia's leading provider of TV and movie data" HWW for $19 million.
Fusion To Air Jay Z's Life + Times
Fusion has "acquired a series of half-hour 'Jay Z’s Life+Times Presents' specials…Fusion will air episodes from the 'Where I’m From' series and intends to expand its offerings."
Michelle Phan Launches Shift Media Group
YouTube superstar Michelle Phan partnered with Cutting Edge Group to create Shift Media Group "which is being positioned as a company that helps amplify a musicians footprint through social media promotions."
RZA x Boombotix
RZA is teaming up with Boombotix to release selected songs from an upcoming 20th Anniversary Wu-Tang Clan album "embedded" in a special edition of Boombot Rex wireless speakers.
