We Are Hunted Co-Founder Launches Wonder.fm, Seevl Co-Founder Creates Twitter DJ
Two leaders in the music discovery space are working on new projects each with a bit of solo action to get things off the ground. We Are Hunted's Stephen Philips recently launched Wonder.fm to present the top tracks from SoundCloud. While Seevl's Alexandre Passant hacked together a proof of concept Twitter DJ bot that I'm calling DJ Seevl though DJ Twitter Bot has a great deal of potential.
Wonder.fm Hunts SoundCloud Tracks
You may remember We Are Hunted, a popular music discovery site that Twitter acquired and killed and whose developers' talents were then squandered on Twitter's #music app.
Stephen Phillips was one of the co-founders who went on to lead the #music team. About the failed experiment Phillips said:
"It struggled due to a lack of licensed music and limited integration with the core Twitter experience. It needed music and tweets!"
Phillips left Twitter in July and got back to work on his own by launching Wonder.fm which "mines SoundCloud for the 99 most-played tracks of the last month, and then aggregates them on an image grid for easy browsing."
Phillips plans on adding hip hop, EDM and Asian pop as well.
DJ Seevl is a Twitter Bot
Seevl co-founder Alexandre Passant recently went into hackday-style action to create a proof of concept Twitter DJ bot (via Tyler Hayes).
Basically you feed Twitter one of the following requests and Seevl kicks back a YouTube video in response:
Hey @seevl, play something like A (artist)
Hey @seevl, play something from L (label)
Hey @seevl, play some G (genre)
Hey @seevl, play A (artist)
At this stage DJ Seevl (in lieu of an official name) can easily exceed Twitter's allowed API requests. For the moment that means you simply won't get a response if that's the case.
Check Passant's post for DJ Seevl's potential beyond a bit of fun. Hint, watch your back DJ Siri!
