Australia Invades The US Charts: 5 Seconds Of Summer Debuts At #1
Australia invaded the Nielsen SoundScan Billboard charts this week with 5 Seconds of Summer scoring the 3rd largest overall debut of 2014 by selling 259,000 copies. It’s also the biggest debut for an artist’s first full-length album this year and the largest for any debut record since 2006.
"The record also marks several milestones for Australian artists, with the band becoming the first act from the country to start at #1 with their first album and the record logging the biggest opening for any Australian artist’s debut in the SoundScan era.," says James Donio, President of the Music Business Association (Music Biz). "We’re always thrilled to see overseas artists achieve this kind of success in the U.S., and we’ll be watching to see whether the band can convert these early feats into lasting sales momentum over the coming weeks and months.”
