Google Play Music Launches In Canada
Country #26 for Google Play Music is Canada. The tech giant launched its full service music offering there, which includes music streaming and downloads, across multiple platforms yesterday. Spotify and Pandora have not launched north of the U.S. border, but Google joins Rdio and Songza in what is shaping up to be a battleground market.
The launch was stalled by negotiations with multiple local rights holders. “It’s complicated, so it took some time to hammer out,” Zahavah Levine, director of global music partnerships at Google Play told the Globe and Mail. “But we worked hard together to make it happen.”
“You can create radio stations from any of your favourite tracks, artists or genres, or you can listen to our pre-curated playlists from Google Play Music’s team of music experts,” said Levine.
