Ecommerce: Square Debuts iPhone Case, PayPal Improves Checkout, Shopify Redesigns App
Indie ecommerce solutions keep improving and that includes their mobile offerings. Given that musicians and merch sellers often spend a lot of time on the road, such updates make a big difference. Square and Griffin have partnered on a Merchant Case for iPhone while Shopify has improved mobile store management. PayPal's hitting all screens with its new In-Context Checkout which keep people on your site rather than redirecting them.
PayPal Introduces In-Context Checkout
PayPal recently introduced In-Context Checkout (shown in above thumbnail) which simplifies the checkout procedure for customers buying through websites using PayPal. In particular, customers will no longer be directed to PayPal's site but will be served by a popup from the site.
Improvements include a clear choice of payment options including Bill Me Later. Additional features are in the works.
Square and Griffin Debut iPhone Merchant Case
Square's mobile credit card reader for iOS and Android has been said to revolutionize the merch table.
You can get the card reader for free but last year they introduced Stand for the iPad which functions as a register connecting to related hardware from receipt printers to barcode scanners.
This month Square introduced Merchant Case for iPhone in partnership with Griffin. The Merchant Case both protects the iPhone and adds extra storage for the Square Reader.
Shopify Redesigns iOS App for Shopify Mobile
Late last year Shopify added Bitcoin support as a currency option for merchants.
This year they redesigned their iOS app, dubbing it Shopify Mobile, to support easier store management wherever you might be.
