2 Music Documentaries Make Oscar Shortlist
Two music related documentaries are among the 15 films to be shortlisted to be nominated for an Academy Award.
"20 Feet from Stardom" and "Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer" made the cut from the 147 films eligible.
"20 Feet from Stardom" chronicles the life of background singer with a fouc on Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, Lisa Fischer, Tata Vega and Judith Hill. This wonderful film also includes interviews with the lead singers they backed, including Springsteen, Jagger and Sting.
"Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer" tells the story of Russian punk rockers Pussy Riot's protest against oppression and injustice in their home country which has led to lengthy jail terms.
The final Oscar nominations will be announced Jan. 16th with the awards show on March 2nd.
Also on the Oscar documentary shortlist are "The Act of Killing," "The Armstrong Lie," "Blackfish," "The Crash Reel," "Cutie and the Boxer," "Dirty Wars," "First Cousin Once Removed," "God Loves Uganda," "Life According to Sam," "The Square," "Stories We Tell" and "Tim's Vermeer."
