Music Marketing Firsts and Refirsts: From A 24 Hour Music Video To A Digital Box Set App
Some of these things claim first, some do not. Some of them are and some are not. But in a postmodern world does history matter? Apparently not. So, instead of playing art history detective or investigative pseudo-journalist or debating some binary question that rigs the discussion, I'll just let you enjoy your own take on these unique and interesting experiments in music marketing from Pharrell, Riz, The Who, Bon Jovi and Katy Perry. Spoiler: the recycled video beats all the firsts.
Pharrell: 24 Hours of Happy
Pharrell's Happy: The World's First 24 Hour Music Video is a looping song and what may well be 24 hours of footage of people who appear to be dancing to that song.
These guys just loved it. You'll love it too cause it's just so FIRST!
Riz: Let's Tango Music Video & Tango.me Theme
Riz – Let's Tango (Google Glass Music Video)
Billed as the "FIRST ever music video shot entirely using Google Glass," Riz's song "Let's Tango" was the first song to launch on messaging/entertainment platform Tango and is also being used in their promo efforts as a theme song.
The Who: Tommy Digital Box Set App
Universal Music Catalogue is releasing the "world’s first-ever digital box set." The Who's "Tommy" is now available for the iPad with lots of extras like a book, videos, a pinball game and more digital stuff packed into a metaphorical box.
Get it for iPad with Android and Windows 8 to follow at some point.
Bon Jovi: Livin' On A Prayer Dance
One Man Dances Like Nobody's Watching While Everyone…etc.
Bon Jovi's stadium hit, "Livin' On A Prayer," is big at arenas too. The above video has gone viral for the second time in its multiyear history and the song is back on the charts.
Was Om Malik right or does a crowd-pleasing song, dance and video justify the return of Bon Jovi to the Hot 100?
Katy Perry: PrismLights Presents #KatyUnconditionally
It's your Instagram photos about love on a map so you can "Show Katy Your Light!"
Here's a backstory. There's the official video.
Katy's so chock full of positive light and energy she doesn't need to be first (except in our hearts)…
