Facebook Experienced Major Outage Today During ‘Routine Maintenance’
UPDATE 2: Things are apparently back to normal at facebook,com, but that was not the case all morning as Facebook users were unable to post status updates, photos and other content or make payments. Users trying to update got the message: "There was a problem updating your status. Please try again in a few minutes.".
Small status update issues are not uncommon, but this one was global and lasted much longer according to numerous tech blogs and our own tests.
in a statement Facebook said: "Earlier this morning, while performing some network maintenance, we experienced an issue that prevented some users from posting to Facebook for a brief period of time. We resolved the issue quickly, and we are now back to 100%. We're sorry for any inconvenience we may have caused."
The “not-being-able-to-login-to-a-service-with-FB” problem actually caused me a significant waste of time and “shit-I-cant-access-info-I-should-100%-own” situation today, via AirBNB.
Be careful, startups and users, about only providing user registration through FB/Goog/Twitter. Email+pass is the only option you control.
Great point. And I thought Facebook did a poor job of communicating with thier users today, as well.
