“Summer Of Hip Hop” Continues On This Week’s Sales Charts
“The ‘Summer of Hip-Hop’ continues this week with the newly hyphen-less
Jay Z topping the charts for a second straight week with Magna Carta… Holy Grail," writes NARM President Jim Donio, on this week’s Nielsen SoundScan Billboard sales chart.
He continues: "It’s the first album to achieve that feat
since Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter IV in
September 2011, extending a streak of great news for the hip-hop genre that began
with Kanye West, J. Cole, and Mac Miller’s 1-2-3 debut on June 26 and also
includes Wale’s first #1 album, J. Cole’s rise to the top in his album’s third
week of release, and of course Jay Z’s massive debut week, even after giving
away 1 million copies of his album to Samsung users,"
