Create Spotify Playlists From Pandora Likes

You know how some would-be reporters think Pandora and Spotify are basically the same? Like, when they say “Pandora faces competition from the likes of Spotify?” That drives me crazy.

Did they also confuse radio stations with record stores? Probably not, so it’s weird that they can’t see this distinction.

If you can’t tell the difference between online radio, download stores, and on-demand services, think of it this way: Pandora is like that FM radio station you must still be listening to, except better. ITunes is like your record store, except better (generally speaking). Spotify is like iTunes, except you can listen to everything (generally speaking) for free, or for a monthly fee.

With that out of the way, here is a way to bridge, quite literally, the gap that exists between Pandora and Spotify, which are two different types of things, as mentioned. Pandora to Spotify Playlist Converter is a Google Chrome extension that converts Pandora into Spotify playlists — specifically your overal Likes (or Thumbed-Up tracks), Bookmarks, and/or Station Likes. Grab Your Pandora Bookmarks

Install Pandora to Spotify Playlist Converter if you can stomach the warning pictured at the bottom of this post, then go to your Pandora Bookmarks. Before you do anything else, click the “Show More” link on Pandora as many times as you can, because this converter thing can’t work if it can’t see the tracks on the webpage.

Now, click the little suitcase icon in the upper right of your screen. We did this on Windows today, but it works on Mac too. This brings up the converter:

It’s a bummer that those Circle tracks aren’t on Spotify, but so be it. Moving on! The next step is to paste the text at the top of the above window, whatever it is in your case, into a new Spotify playlist. You probably want to call this list something like, I don’t know, “pandora bookmarks”:

It’s also a bummer that the Zeppelin track comes out in Spotify as being from a tribute band, but that’s another issue entirely. Moving on again!

Grab Your Pandora Likes

Now, point your Google Chrome browser to your Pandora Likes page, and hoover those up too, using the exact same method listed above, including the part about clicking “Show More” as many times as you can.

This becomes:

Grab Your Likes From Any Pandora Station

First, find the station in the list on the left side of the page, and click Options >Station Details:

Remember to click “Show More” until it goes away, as with the other steps. Then click the suitcase in the upper right of your browser to grab your Liked, Thumbed-Up tracks from that channel:

Finally, paste those Likes into a new Spotify playlist:

Now you have at least three new, amazing (to you) Spotify playlists, courtesy of your Pandora listening — or more, if you do the rest of your artist stations. It’s not easy, but it’s effective — and besides, nobody said it was easy to collect music nowadays.
