O Music Awards To Feature 24-Hour Drum-a-thon w/ Questlove & (Maybe) Your Band
The next O Music Awards is just around the corner on June 19th. This edition includes 24 hours of live music and a day-long drum-a-thon initiated by Questlove. In addition, 5 bands will perform as part of The Make A Band Famous Award for which the last day of nomination is today.
The 2012 O Music Awards took a road trip in which The Flaming Lips broke the Guinness World Record for most shows in 24 hours.
That's a hard act to follow but this year's Awards should have some entertaining moments including a 24 hour drum-a-thon featuring Questlove and a lot of drumming by drummers yet to be announced.
O Music Awards categories are always an interesting work-in-progress:
"Returning categories will include “Digital Genius Award,” “Fan Army FTW,” “Best Web-Born Artist,” “Must Follow Artist on Twitter,” “Best Music App,” “Too Much Ass For TV” and “Best Artist Instagram." Inaugural categories include “Next Big Scene,” which recognizes emerging genres and music trends, “Most Inspiring Fan Outreach”, honoring musicians who are leveraging digital platforms in innovative ways to reach their fans and,“Analog Genius” honoring artists who are using old technology in groundbreaking ways."
Disclosure: I nominated contestants in a couple of these though my input was not requested in the "Too Much Ass For TV" category.
A new Make A Band Famous category is being introduced. Bands nominate themselves, a "music and talent team" chooses 10 nominees, voting occurs for said nominees and 5 will play at the Awards.
Looks like you may just have today left to Nominate Your Band via the MTV Artist Opportunities portal. You'll get:
The opportunity to play the O Music Awards 24-hour livestream kicking off on June 19
Fame funnel treatment from MTV, CMT, & VH1 pushing your music to the next level
Artist features on the O Music Awards website
Featured in the O Music Awards artist collection page
Though "10 go in, 5 come out," doesn't have that Road Warrior ring, it still sounds like a good deal for the right acts.
