Tastebuds Raises $600K For Music Dating Site
UK based startup Tastebuds.fm, a music-centered social dating service, today announced a $600,000
seed investment from technology group Black Ocean. Tastebuds
allows users to meet based on similar musical preferences. Users enter three of their favorite artists to start.
The company launched a Spotify app in May 2012
allowing users to share tracks and playlists with new people on the
music streaming service. Since then over 50,000 Spotify users have
registered.
"Tastebuds has proven to be an
extremely effective social connector as a massive 43% of first messages
sent get a reply," according to co-founder Alex Parish.
There is also a music
discovery component. "Other social
services show you an endless stream of what your existing friends are
listening to, but their music taste isn't necessarily of interest to
you. Our unique Radio feature lets you discover new music that people just like you are listening to, right now," added Parish.
The service is available at Tastebuds.fm.
It should match an Amy Grant fanatic with a Dimmu Borgir devotee and then film the hilarity that ensues. I’d pay to watch that.
The introduction of dating sites has made communication among individuals much easier and also helps a person save a lot of money on dates in restaurants or pubs.
