Another Direct Payment Deal For Clear Channel: eOne Music
Radio giant Clear Channel today announced a direct deal with independent label, distributor and marketer Entertainment One Music to share revenue from digital and terrestrial
radio. eOne's music library includes more than 45,000 tracks from DJ Drama, Faith Evans, Pop Evil, Jake Miller, Black Label
Society, Joe Budden and others.
Depending on your point of view, its either another blow to collective digital bargaining and collection, or an innovative way to help internet radio become sustainable.
Clear Channel’s eOne deal follows
similar agreements with Big Machine Label Group, Glassnote Entertainment
Group, DashGo, rpm Entertainment, Robbins Entertainment, and Naxos. In exchange for a share of broadcast radio royalties, label partners generally agree to a smaller share of digital revenue now.
“This agreement is great for us and for Clear Channel, but ultimately the fans
and artists benefit most” said Michael Koch, CEO of eOne Music.
