Sony Pacts With Ultra Music, Names Patrick Moxey President Electronic Music
Sony has made a significant investment in EDM label Ultra Music and cut a global deal t includes A&R, distribution and international repertoire. Under the agreement, Patrick Moxey, President of Ultra Music, has been named to the newly minted position of President, Electronic Music, Sony Music Entertainment.
Recordings from Sony Music's dance music catalog will now be included on Ultra's successful compilation series. In addition, Sony Music will work closely with Ultra's dance and electronic artist management company Empire Artist Management (Adrian Lux, Benny Benassi, Julien Jabre, Alex Gaudino) under the new arrangement.
Ultra Music is an EDM promotional powerhouse with it's YouTube channel at one million plus subscribers and two billion views. Its current roster Kaskade, deadmau5, Wolfgang Gartner, Steve Aoki, Calvin Harris, Benny Benassi, Alex Gaudino, Above & Beyond, Adrian Lux, and others. Ultra also has a global alliance with the Ultra Music Festival, with events slated for 2013 in the U.S., Brazil, Argentina, Korea, and Croatia.
Sony will distribute releases from Ultra in North America via RED in the U.S. and Sony Music Canada, while outside North America, Sony Music International and Ultra will share resources to promote Ultra's artists worldwide. Ultra Music will help market Sony artists in the U.S. and Canada on a project-by-project basis.
