11/29 UPDATE: iTunes 11 Will Finally Launch Today [REPORT]

The launch iTunes 11, a major overhaul, which Apple promised would go live in October, has been delayed until November, the company revealed yesterday.  “The new iTunes is taking longer than expected and we wanted to take a little extra time to get it right," spokesman Tom Neumayr said in a statement. "We look forward to releasing this new version of iTunes with its dramatically simpler and cleaner interface and seamless integration with iCloud before the end of November.” But why the delay?

Speculation began that there were problems with the release when iTunes 11 was conspicuously missing from last week's iPad Mini launch. Apple is also in the midst of an executive shakeup which might be the cause of the delay.  Just as likely is the scenario that these and similar recent snafus helped push some execs out the door.

Our sources point to technical issues involving iCloud integration of the new features. Whatever the reason, here according to Apple, is what to expect when iTunes 11 does arrive:

  • Sleeker layout
  • New library views
  • improved iCloud integration
  • a mini-player
  • Instant recommendations and know what's playing next
  • Preview history
  • improved search
