7digital Updates Android App With Improved Discovery & Player Enhancements
UK
based digital media company 7digital
has just released the latest version of their Android application, making it easier
for users to discover and share new artists and albums. Among several notable upgrades, the
app allows users to access 7digital’s entire catalogue of 20 million digital
music tracks – acting as an all-in-one music player and store that syncs new
and previously purchased tracks stored in their 7digital locker.
The
company says that these new features are designed to improve music discovery
and the listening experience across the app. These include artist pages that now come with
complete biographies, which include genre tags and links to similar artists for
enhanced music discovery. Also, the full screen player now allows users to
create playlists, view more details about an album or artist, and share track
links through email, Facebook, Twitter or other apps direct from the player. A
new player bar has also been added to the app, making it easier to listen to
music, browse and preview new tracks and albums at the same time.

“Our customers are
increasingly discovering and purchasing music on mobile, over 44% of our sales
last year were through mobile devices,” said 7digital CEO, Ben Drury. “This
update allows music fans to easily share tracks and albums from their mobile
device, and discover new or similar artists based on their existing music
collection.”
This
update comes as 7digital expands their North American operation with a number
of key new hires including personnel formerly of eMusic, Apple, Pandora, Sprint,
and IODA Distribution. The company now has U.S. offices in San Francisco, Los
Angeles, and New York.
The
new 7digital app is available now for free to Android smartphone and tablet
users and can be downloaded from the Android Market, GetJar and the Amazon Appstore.
