First Tweets, Now Pins – SoundCloud “Unmutes” Pinterest
Keeping the momentum going from last week’s “unmuting” of Twitter, SoundCloud has announced that sounds can now be "pinned" on Pinterest. Doing so will launch the SoundCloud HTML5 widget with all its accompanying artwork whenever the pin is clicked – "perfect for listening whilst you browse," according to the statement from SoundCloud.
Pinterest enables users to create virtual pinboards of anything they find of interest on the web including photos, sketches, and now audio. When a user pins a sound on Pinterest, its artwork will be displayed alongside other pins, and the SoundCloud HTML5 widget will launch when the pin is clicked. Shared sounds are fully attributed, and link back to their page on SoundCloud, so creators will always be credited.

To pin a sound, a user can either use Pinterest’s ‘Pin It’ bookmarklet, or copy the URL of the sound you want to share onto the site. As a bonus, if you’re using the Next SoundCloud private beta, you can even pin a sound directly from its share button on SoundCloud.

Back in May, Pinterest announced that content creative communities such as Flickr, YouTube, Behance, and Vimeo will be "clearly, consistently and automatically credited when pinned to Pinterest.” Along with SoundCloud, Pinterest has announced that photos from 500px, handcrafted and vintage items from Etsy, videos from Kickstarter, presentations from SlideShare, and sounds from SoundCloud will all show the same attribution.
