Jay-Z, Shakira Jump On Viddy Investor Bandwagon
Video sharing app Viddy is hot, and with the addition of some high profile celebrity investors, their momentum is likely to accelerate. The company has announced a bevy of new financial backers and partners including pop singer Shakira, Jay-Z's Roc Nation, which manages Rihanna, and Overbrook Entertainment, founded by Will Smith.
Viddy, an Instagram for short videos already used by many musicians, claims 10 million users, with another 300,000 signing up daily.
The celebrity investors join a $6 million Series A round announced in February led by venture capitalists including Battery Ventures, Greycroft Partners and Qualcomm. Big name investors from the tech world including Biz Stone, a founder of Twitter; Brian Lee, founder of ShoeDazzle, and Josh James, of Omniture also joined the round.
