Digital Ghost Of Tupac Shakur Rounds Out First Coachella Weekend [VIDEO]
Rapper Tupac Shakur helped to close out the first Coachella weekend, joining Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre for a turn on stage on Sunday night. Or at least, a hologram of the deceased performer did. Shakur's electronic ghost took to the stage, greeting Coachella before launching into a solo performance of his hit song 'Hail Mary.' Then, the illusory rapper and Snoop Dogg teamed up for a duet of “Ain’t Nothin’ Like A Gangsta Party.”
The rendition of Shakur was uncanny in most respects, but appeared to glide across stage at some points, rather than walk. The fan reaction was mixed, with some clearly impressed by the production wizardry, while others seemed put off by the experience with one festival-goer tweeting that the hologram was "wrong on so many levels."
Other rappers who joined Dre and Snoop onstage included Eminem, Wiz Khalifa, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar
After the show, Khalifa enthused about the experience on Twitter, writing (SIC): "Fuccin 2pac Ahhhhhhh!!! I Performed Wit Dr Dre And Snoop Dogg!!! Awww Fucc Im So Happy To Be Alive. That Was The Best Shit I Seen In My Life! Thank Everybody!!! Snoop. Dre. Warren G. Pac. The Stoners. The Ratchet!!! Usher. 50 Cent. Coachella Was Life Changing!!!" – CelebrityAccess
This was absolutely phenomenal and shows the brilliance technology can bring to art. It is through art that we can carry on the legends of the most brilliant performers and minds of our time. What a tribute this was to a legendary hip hop artist. You can see some more 2Pac art on my artist’s blog with a surreal illustration I made in memoriam recently at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/09/in-memoriam-tupac-shakur.html
