Hypebot Editor Kyle Bylin Joins Billboard

BillboardLogo Longtime Hypebot Editor Kyle Bylin put in his last day at the blog on Friday. Bylin has taken a job as Social Charts Manager at Billboard Magazine in Los Angeles. This week, he will make the 1,850 mile from North Dakota to California. Shortly thereafter, Bylin will start his new position at Billboard. If Hypebot readers would like to meet up sometime, all inquiries on talking about the music industry over Guinness or coffee (or both) should be sent to kyle.bylin at gmail.com.

From Bruce:

Congratulations Kyle! Billboard is getting a deep thinker, who has insights that have added incredibly to the debates that are shaping the new music industry.

It's been a deep pleasure working with Kyle and watching his writing and viewpoints evolve; particularly since he joined full time a year ago. I have learned a great deal working with him.

Rest assured that Hypebot amd Music Think Tank will continue much as it they have for the last 5 years. Change is good and I'll be using this opportunity to add more new voices to the sites. The revolution in the music industry is just getting started, and Hypebot and MTT will be there covering it each and every day.

Good luck, Kyle. Lunch at Pink's is in on me the next time I'm in LA… unless Bill wants to let you put it on your new expense account. โ€“ Bruce Houghton

From Kyle:

Needless to say, I'm very excited about this great opportunity.

First off, I'd like to thank Bruce Houghton for finding me three years ago, believing in me, and always nudging me to expand on the talents he saw. Mr. Houghton changed the life of someone he'd never met. Thank you to Jay Frank for being an exceptional friend and mentor. Thank you to Scott LeGere for being a great teacher and mentor. He exposed me to Hypebot and Music Think Tank in class.

Of course, thank you to Silvio Pietroluongo and Bill Werde Billboard Magazine for bringing me on their great team. Lastly, thank you to the Hypebot audience for reading and commenting on my work throughout the years. I loved every minute.

Each of you taught me many, many things that I will never forget.

The last month has been very humbling and exciting. On a final note, if you live within reasonable distance of Miracle Mile, I'd also be interested in hearing about open rooms and other housing things like that. A good friend of mine is putting me up temporarily, but once I get settled into Los Angeles, I will be searching for more long-term living situations. Interested? Contact me at the email listed above.

As always, stay curious and create the chaos. โ€“ Kyle Bylin (@kbylin

  3. Congrats Kyle,
I’m dying to read the first essay about what its like to move from North Dakota to LA. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Keep up the good work at Billboard!
    -Jed

  4. Did Billboard see the article Bylin wrote about its potential demise? If so, and they hired him, smart thinking! Doesn’t appear to be on the site anymore though…

  5. Hypebot does have spell check, but in writing, editing, and publishing 2-3k in copy every day, a few errors fell through the cracks. After awhile, all copy looks flawless to the writer. Unfortunately, breaking news doesn't get to sit in the drawer for a day so we can look at it with fresh eyes.ย

  6. haha i’d say billboard drops some lady gages now and then too
    we’ll miss you kyle!

  7. Thank you for the kind words everyone. I’m humbled. And Jed, I’ll be sure to tell you all about the journey from the gravel roads and small towns of ND to the labyrinth of LA. It will be a fun, interesting, and exciting switch.
