Broken Bells? Buzz? More like…boring. If I had to vote on a buzz band coming out of SX, it would be The Smith Westerns.
I agree with Kegan… Broken Bells was less the buzz band than the band that used SXSW as a 4 day long rehearsal. Don’t get me wrong, I love the album but the live show needs to be tweaked. There were many buzz bands including Smith & Westerns. Others included Band of Horses and Band of Skulls. Also, Nneka, a German-Nigerian hip hop artist, was huge (though the showcase I saw was not that great) http://www.nnekaworld.com/us/home
Totally, Nancy. Band of Skulls was impressive. Band of Horses, while not really considered a buzz band anymore, put on probably the most jaw-dropping and most talked about shows at SX. I saw them at Stubbs and a lot of people walked out after they were done playing, not waiting around for the “headliner” Broken Social Scene. That spoke loudly. But yeah, feels like the big Broken Bells roll-out went swimmingly in regards to press and publicity, but as far as the shows went… left a bit to be desired.

is this based on anything? I found this article that seems to have some stats to support it saying Fang Island was the buzz band of SXSW .
