  1. This is a silly statement to make, that We7 is the most popular UK music service based on Pageviews. Of course we7 is a web based service, so they are going to have millions of pageviews per month. However, Spotify isnt a web based service, its a piece of software in which Pageviews cant be measured.

  2. Good point! It’s like saying Google Docs got more hits than Microsoft Office… perhaps true, but very little meaning.

  3. Well thanks for that contribution to the debate Hans….moving on…
Steve, if i may, the reason it’s important is that Hitwise is an independent measurement service. And page views on the web provide the advertising inventory to be able to sell to fund the service and to pay the bands and to make it all legal for fans for the long term. The key to making the business work is not the audio ads you hear, but the combination of ads you see and the ad you hear. The we7 audio ads are 6 seconds usually and most people find them OK in exchange for free legal music. They may even be as effective when used like this as video ads. Certainly many people never claim their ‘ad free days’ so they cant hate the ads that much…and the site is pretty awesome isn’t it. Great catalogue too. If you find gaps other than the obvious ones let me know. I am the Chairman and Founder of we7.
