Musicslu Offers A New Twist On Band To Fan Financing Model
Musicslu offers an interesting new twist on fan to band financing. As this video that we found via TechDirt shows, bands post an amount that they need and no money changes hands until the number is hit. Then after the project is finished it is released for free wrapped in a Creative Commons license that encourages spreading the music around.
How is this different then the other sites looking for investors or donors? I looked through the company and just kept thinking to myself – isn’t it better just to develop your fan base and go to them ala Jill Sobule or Sara Hickman (remember in 1995 when she asked her fans to donate to her ‘rescue my album from the shelves of Elektra campaign – she was ahead of her time – someone should do a story on that!). I think I am missing the hook / purpose of this site. My opinion is that the artist is better putting up a cyber tip jar on their site. Do the artists who join this one get to keep / know who the people are who are donating?
