Thumbplay Open Enables Indie Mobile Sales
Much of this week’s music news is coming from San Francisco and the CTIA mobile conference. Thumplay used the gathering to launch Thumplay Open which enables indie artists and labels to sell mobile digital content like ringtones and wallpaper.
Artists are given
their own page on Thumbplay web and mobile sites and
becomes available for sale there and on 300 partner sites including Clear Channel Radio, AOL, MSN
Mobile and iLike. Content delivery occurs over-the-air
to more than 2,000 handsets models across all major U.S.
carriers. Artists are also given access to a number of promotional tools…
including customized widgets. They can select content, images and colors and buttons for their widgets and reach fans through social networking sites, blogs and web sites. Fans can also text “GET,” plus the artist’ name (e.g., “GET TAY ZONDAY”), to 84862 (THUMB) and download the content directly to their phone.
There are no limits to the amount of content an artist or label can upload.
