GigMaven Opens Gig Marketplace

Nightclub_2GigMaven enables artists to find and book gigs online. So far 500 acts have joined as have
credible venues in Boston, Columbus, and New York. Artists create profiles or import them from MySpace. Music bookers list availabilities and search for an ideal act to complete a multi-act night. Unlike the many sites that help acts market and sell, GigMaven is only about circumventing the endless emailing and cat-and-mouse phone calls to get gigs.

ANALYSIS: As a free service, I don’t see a revenue model; and GigMaven’s future depends both on the quality of the acts and the willingness talent buyers to engage. Demand for gigs will never meet supply, but perhaps this is a tool to help improve the quality of the transaction.

  1. Gigmaven seems like just the service us unsigned bands need. While it is easy to get gigs in your home town, without a booking agent, its been very tough to branch out and play other cities/regions. Gigmaven seems to be a good tool that cuts out the middlemen to connect bands and venues. Just another way the playing field is being leveled. I hope they figure out a way to monetize so they can be around for a while.

  2. My name is Howard Han and I am the founder of GigMaven. First off, Bruce, thanks for picking up the story and writing about it. Secondly, Gavroche has nailed the value proposition, so I won’t speak about that.
I do, however, disagree with the notion that supply of gigs will never meet demand. There is a huge need for GigMaven to help both musicians and venues find each other in a fast and efficient manner. When you think of the larger venues, you are correct, that the demand for these gigs is greater than supply. That being said, imagine if you could divert all of the musicians who were unable to book a gig at that larger venue to other venues. These small to medium size venues are currently unable to tap into that mass of musicians all applying to the same venues, resulting in empty slots. In addition, there is currently no mechanism to aggregate and filter all of the artist submissions in one, central online location.
At the most basic level, GigMaven makes the booking process faster and easier. We are working on many features in order to help venues and musicians make more accurate booking decisions. Thanks again for the feedback.
