4 Pillars Of The Band & Fan Relationship

1) Attract

2) Communicate

  • It’s a two way conversationFans_2

3) Build Loyalty

  • Keep interest with new songs, videos, shows & more

4) Monetize

  • Each fan (casual, active, fanatical) will want a different product level (free, affordable, premium)

It’s as simple and as hard as that.

  1. I would say that the “communicate” part is a 3-way conversation. Most of the music I interact with comes from other music listeners, not from the artists themselves. I would guess that most communication happens from one fan to another, versus between a fan and the artist. This seems especially true in clique/niche genres like Indie Rock, where the music represents not only listening pleasure but some form of social currency…

  2. I think the most difficult pillar to accomplish is the 3rd pillar, “building loyalty”. In order to build loyalty artist’s need to give the audience a reason to return. This is very difficult with so many different destinations to listen to music and consequently so many different destinations an artist has to have a profile.
If that profile is not kept up to date with media, news, tour dates, information then they risk losing not only a fan, but a loyal fan. It is all about converting the page view or song play into a fan. I know there are a tons of music properties and it is very difficult to keep track of and update, but it is very important for an artist to show they are committed.
