Amazon Adds IODA Video & Films
IODA has announced that Amazon will now carry their independent film and music-related video content. IODA’s filma and video catalog will now be available through Amazon’s Unbox digital video download service and CreateSpace, Amazon’s on demand platform IODA already distributes a catalog of more than one million independent music tracks Amazon MP3 and a network of music distribution channels.
IODA manages digital distribution for over 2000 video and film titles including features, documentaries, TV shows, short films and fitness, sports and lifestyle programs. IODA also announced digital video distribution agreements with independent film and video companies Arab Film Distribution, NCircle and Indie Rights. Arab Film Distributes such award winning films as Iraq in Fragments. NCircle Entertainment distributes high profile children’s video titles like Trollz, Super Mario Bros. Super Show! and Sonic Underground. Indie Rights is distributing the documentary Skid Row, which was produced by and stars Pras from the Fugees.
In addition to offering content on Amazon, IODA’s network of retailers that distribute indie film and music-related video content include movie download sites Netflix and Bit Torrent, mobile outlets Groovemobile, Hudson, Jamba/Jamster, Mobile Streams, Rogers Canada and Musiwave, and music video purveyor Real Rhapsody.
IODA has been promising movies and videos for years. It took my company six months just to get a band video up on iTunes, as they told me that was not a problem over a year ago. Then I was told two weeks ago that it would be at least January to get anything up on Netflix, and even then it would be the big name films first, and films and documentaries that Netflix were already carrying in the catalog, so what that says to me is our submissions may be months or even a year or more after that January 2009 date. iTunes is still in back catalog hell from the pressure of the majors and placing their films,so why is iTunes going to stop placing proven money makers to take a chance on indie films? They are not. As I was told directly from iTunes, that unless I had a very popular movie that had a release in a cinema, a cult film with a past track record, or a current really big name star, that this iTunes placemnt would not even be a reality for my company for a year at best, for release on iTunes. While I like IODA and agree they do very well for the music side of placement, I think this press release is a misleading article to people with films and full length video music performances. I think that the average indie film or documentary would be a year or more out from what is being promised here. And then IODA is not even discussing the delivery proccess, the cost they are looking to associate with encoding and lead times that can not be promised. This is a year or better at best before this even becomes a possability beyond Amazon.
There is no Steve Winno who is distributed by IODA. He’s just a professional poster of misinformation on blogs.
