EMI Names Another SVP Digital – Mark Piibe
Even as rumors of pending staff cuts grow louder, EMI is bulking up its digital team with another executive suite appointment. Mark Piibe has been named SVP, Business Affairs for EMI Music North America’s digital unit. Piibe will begin his new role on December 1 and will report to Lauren Berkowitz, SVP, EMI Music North America.
Piibe will be based in New York and work with Berkowitz and the label’s online, mobile and tech partners. He will also work with the legal and business affairs teams of all of EMI’s North American labels.
Most recently, Priibe was Senior Vice President & Head of Content for MusicGremlin, a venture capital-backed digital music company based in New York. Prior to that, Piibe consulted with a number of digital music and computer gaming ventures. In 2002, he was that Associate General Counsel & Director of Business Affairs at Napster.
Berkowitz is rumoured to be on the way out after the December 5th strategy session by Terra Firma’s executive team in London. The first round of layoffs will be the first week of January. Lauren will be out at that time, along with 40% of EMI Records staff. FJ
