YouTube Misses Content Filter Deadline. Will Labels React?
YouTube had promised a new content filtering system in place by the end of the year, but failed to meet the deadline without comment.
Particularly effected is WMG who made a creative revenue sharing deal with YouTube just weeks ago, but they lead a long list of those effected. Missing the deadline "is hugely important, especially from the rights holders’
perspective." says Micahel McGuire of Gartner Research. “Rights holders are making specific bets on paths of distribution and
are expecting serious effort to make uncontrolled distribution
difficult…”
We’re betting that YouTube has only a few weeks to make good on it’s promises. But smart content owners might want to show restraint and benefit from the free promotion on a less crowded channel.
