Iceland’s Smekkleysa Label Celebrates 20 Years
Iceland’s Smekkleysa recording company is celebrating its 20th
anniversary.
In 1986 the single "ammaeli" was released in Iceland later to
become a world wide hit under the name "Birthday". Since then The Sugarcubes owned label
has released over 200 albums and continues to passionately support new and original music made in Iceland. Mojo online claims this is
“Iceland’s most noble and altruistic label”.
The catalog includes 2200 songs in
all genres including tracks with The Sugarcubes,
Bjork and Sigur Ros. iTunes, eMusic and Napster all are featuring a compilation on
their front pages which provide a look at the last 20 years.
