UPDATED: MySpace To Sell Music Of 3 Million Unsigned Acts
UPDATED: MySpace is going to empower fans to sell music straight from their own MySpace pages using a widget created by SnoCap that Hypebot profiled five weeks ago. The tracks will be sold as unprotected mp3’s thus leaving most major label acts out of the mix. Payment will be handled via PayPal. Plans to offer a DRM option are rumored.
Musicians however may be startled by a whopping 45 cents per transaction fee. It is unclear if this fee can be lowered by joining one of SnoCap’s special programs which are part of the MyStore concept that it has offered by SnoCap for several weeks. The enhanced service also offer track batching and other features.
With MyStore these same widgets can be dropped easily into other sites and blogs, but their inclusion on MySpace broadens the potential audience immensely. With the upcoming release of Microsofts’s Zune, the pending launch of free ad-supported download site RapidFrog, more full featured and affordable players coming to market and other recent announcements the download sector seems ready to heat-up.
What a god damn scam… they shouldn’t be charging more than .05 cents per download.
