Music Goes Silent As America Remembers 9/11
The tragic events of September 11th and the subsequent "war on terror" has profoundly effected America as a nation and reshaped the perception of our country throughout the world.
But on the 5th anniversary of this horrific day as the country mourns and worldwide attention is focused on the issue, music seems eerily absent. Where are the musical events marking the anniversary or songs written to express the crossroads at which our nation stands? (One notable exception is the classical Musicians For Harmony whose concerts commemorate the victims and raise money for peace-related causes.)
Many ceremonies today will highlight a classic patriotic or religious song and rightfully so. But where are the new voices to reflect today’s complex emotions?
